Volunteering

February 5, 2011

Volunteered today at one of my favorite locations, CHUMA international; they collect medical supplies and distribute them to countries in need. I might be able to bring some supplies with me on my Thailand trip.

Volunteering is fun, a way to meet new and like minded people, support worthy causes in your community. Get up, get out, and GO THAI. Go Out To Help All Individuals.

Taking a chance

January 30, 2011

It has been said: “Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage”.

I confess to you my friends that for over a year, I suppressed the desire I had to volunteer in Thailand. Good intentions alone accomplish nothing. We naturally long for times of comfort and convenience but our moral fiber, our humanity, can only be measured when we stand in times of challenge and controversy.

As MLK's birthday just passed, I thought about these words of his: “Cowardice asks the question "Is...

Tracking the progress

January 15, 2011

Two weeks into the New Year, time to track the progress. I am thankful for the support and donations I have received thus far, a total of $200. A good start but a long way to go; the more that can be raised the longer I can volunteer. The goal is $4000 for two months.

Working hard to make this project successful

January 8, 2011

It looked like a refugee camp- Be thankful you do not know such hardships as these internally displaced persons. Let’s get out there and do something to help in our communities.

I made a few contacts; I am working hard to make this project successful as possible. There were Christians, Atheist and others joining together for the ...

Sifting through Thailand's ashes

January 1, 2011

You got one tiny moment in time for life, how will you use it?

Let’s use this New Year to do meaningful things.
I have learned a lot this past year, like there is actually another William Barnes concerned with Thailand, he is a veteran Bangkok-based journalist. I recently read one of his articles in the Asia Times May 22, 2010 called Sifting through Thailand's ashes.

"...Thailand is in a state of shock over the physical damage, political pain and psychological hurt … said one intelligen...

Dying to Leave

December 25, 2010

Human Trafficking Worldwide: Thailand

...Traffickers find fertile ground in Thailand’s rugged North, where economic change has wreaked havoc. Many of the tribal residents in this highlands region also do not have Thai citizenship — a fact that leaves them particularly vulnerable to trafficking. In one northern Thai region, Mae Sai, 70 percent of the 800 families there had sold a daughter into prostitution, delegates at the 2001 Second World Congress against Commercial Sexual Exploitation o...
